  1. Enter as a comment to this assignment the part of the dialog from the previous assignment which we have corrected during our last lesson.
  2. We will finish analyzing the dialog from the last week.
  3. Be prepared to participate in a dialog in which you will be an applicant for a loan to start a cosmetic clinic and I will be a bank officer interviewing you and making the final decision about whether to grant you the loan. This is not a written assignment. You should review the relevant vocabulary which you have already used while working on your last assignments and also learn a new one which would concern topics which you haven't covered so far but which might be useful during the interview.

Assignment #2.20

  1. You have fulfilled the requirements of the last assignment only partially. You have described adequately how you would wish your family life to look like, but said very little about the professional aspect of your imagined future. You only stated that you would like to be independent as the head of your own company. During our last lesson we have covered this topic in some detail, delineating the steps you would have to take in order to create your own company. Consider this discussion as the starting material and present a more complete plan whose realization might make you your own boss. You could also ask aunt Ola for advise. Recently, she took over a veterinary clinic in which she had worked for several years. Hence, she certainly knows a lot about all kinds of obstacles one encounters on the road to one's own enterprise.
  2. Recently there are many jokes about coronavirus pandemic in circulation. Here is one of them:

Assignment #2.19

  1. Use your imagination and describe how would you like your life to be in 10 years from now. Whom would you like to be professionally? What kind of family would you have: single, married with children or without? What about living conditions: an apartment, or rather a house in suburbs? A city, a town, or a village? What kind of a social life would you prefer: concentrating more on the family or on friends? Try to be realistic in projecting the future by taking into consideration the limitations which your current situation sets.

Assignment #2.17

  1. One of many measures undertaken to restrict the spread of the coronavirus was to close all schools. It has been for almost two weeks now that the education moved from school buildings to homes from which students work on their lessons via Internet connection. Describe this new experience. Do not restrict your report to the technical side of this procedure, i.e. how it works, but tell about your assessment of the new method as well. What works well and what doesn't? Justify your opinions with concrete arguments.
  2. We will read about the Coronavirus from Wikipedia's Simplified English version.

Emilka' self-assignment

In the time from February 2 through March 23 there were no lessons, initially because of Emilka's sickness, then because of my one-month stay in Seattle. During my absence Emilka was supposed to continue working on improving her English skills and report the results here. She sent me via WhatsApp a picture of her choice for which she provided a description:

In the picture, I see a beautiful family. The man is probably a father. He has dark short hair. He is wearing a white t-shirt, white trousers, and white shoes with red ornaments. He keep two puppies, and he kisses a stomach his wife.
The woman is probably a Mam (*). She has long brown hair, dark eyes, and a beautiful smile. She is pregnant. The woman is wearing a white knitted dress. She keeps a small child on her left arm and ultrasound pictures in the right hand.
The child has big dark eyes and fair hair. Probably there is a girl. She has a small ponytail. There is so cute.
This family is very happy because the parents are love and there have a beautiful daughter.

Assignment #2.14

  1. My intention for the last assignment was that you would describe in full detail the Christmas Eve supper customs that we were talking about during our lesson preceding the last one: sharing wafers, reading from the Bible, saying prayers and more. My directions in this respect were rather vague and you misunderstood them. Accordingly, you wrote about other customs only. So now, in the description as part of this assignment, cover the customs we discussed then. Before doing this read the assignment #2.13 again, so you could refresh your memory about the assumptions you should make while working on your composition.
  2. If time allows, we will resume our reading on the painting The Arnolfini Marriage.

Assignment #2.13

  1. Describe to a hypothetical friend living in UK the customs observed in your family during the Christmas Eve. Assume that your friend is an atheist, but is very interested in religious aspects of such customs. In your description you won't be able to rely on the kind of understanding we take for granted in Poland. You should therefore pay attention to details in a manner you did during our last lesson, when you were reporting on how you spent the Christmas Eve supper at aunt Teresa. Try to tell even more than what you did then, for example about carols and Santa Claus.
  2. When I was at Julia's in Liverpool for Christmas, I visited an old cemetery nearby. Below is a photo of a gravestone with an interesting inscription. Translate it into Polish.
